History with its flickering lamp stumbles along the trail of the past, trying to reconstruct its scenes, to revive its echoes, and kindle with pale gleams the passion of former days. ~Winston Churchill

Venice in the Rain

A beautiful set of photographs from LIFE photographer Dmitri Kessel (who also shot these similarily beautiful and atmospheric photos of a snowy Paris) depicting Venice on a rainy December day, 1952.

Hi there, I just found your blog and really enjoyed looking through all of the pictures. I think it's rather hard to find people who are interested in old photographs or the ephemera of years gone by.

Have you heard of the photographer Saul Leiter? He has these great photographs of New York in the 50s and 60s. I think that you'd enjoy them.

Thanks for sharing all of these great photographs.
